At KVOU, our recreational and social activities are much more than just a calendar of events—they are a vital part of our mission to ensure individuals live an "Everyday Life". We believe that every person we support has the right to determine their own course, build lasting relationships, and be fully included in the fabric of their community.

Our Fun-For-All programs are designed to be age and functionally appropriate, focusing on the unique interests and strengths of each individual as identified in their Individual Plan. We offer a balanced mix of activities that occur both at the home and away from the home, ensuring individuals stay connected to the people and places that matter most to them.

Building Connections and Independence

Our inclusive programs foster a supportive environment where everyone can grow their independence through shared experiences:

  • Meaningful Socialization: From shared crafts and games at home to creative agency-wide projects, we provide daily opportunities for individuals to engage with their peers and staff in a warm, family-like setting.

  • True Community Integration: We move beyond simple "outings" to focus on true integration—bringing individuals into equal participation with the general public. This includes visiting museums, attending theaters, participating in local fairs and festivals, and joining community clubs or exercise classes.

  • Civic Engagement and Volunteering: We support individuals in giving back through volunteer and civic-minded opportunities, helping them develop confidence and fulfill their roles as active citizens.

  • Traditions and Celebrations: We host warm holiday celebrations, monthly decorating contests, and special activities sponsored by the Board of Directors to cultivate a sense of belonging and joy within the KVOU family.

  • Relationship Building: We prioritize supporting individuals to maintain and develop relationships with family and friends, recognizing that these connections are the foundation of a fulfilling life.

Guided by Choice

In alignment with our core value of Control & Choice, every individual has the right to choose the activities they wish to participate in—or to refuse them entirely. We empower our participants to direct their own schedules, ensuring that their leisure time reflects their personal preferences, cultural considerations, and individual goals.

By providing these opportunities, KVOU ensures that individuals are not just residents of a home, but active members of Western Pennsylvania’s vibrant local communities
